Herkomst en achtergrond
This organic extra virgin olive oil comes from Puglia, in Southern Italy, and is made from 100% Coratina olives, making it a monocultivar olive oil. Coratina is known for its powerful character: green, distinctly bitter, and peppery. Precisely this bitterness and pepperiness are characteristic of an olive oil with a high content of natural polyphenols.
With 847 mg/kg of polyphenols, this oil has an exceptionally high antioxidant content. This makes the oil interesting for those who choose extra virgin olive oil not only for its taste but also consciously pay attention to quality, polyphenols, and daily nutrition.
It is not a soft, bland olive oil, but a robust Italian EVOO with character and substantiated analysis values.
The oil has been awarded at many international olive oil competitions in New York, London, Berlin, Japan, etc.
The bag-in-box packaging protects your beautiful extra virgin olive oil from light and oxygen better than an opened bottle, while being significantly more economical per liter than smaller packages.
For daily use, this is a powerful oil: delicious over pasta, vegetables, bread, and salads, but also suitable for baking and roasting. A distinct Coratina for those who value taste, health, and demonstrable quality.

Smaak & gebruik
This Coratina from Puglia is powerful, green, and distinctly bitter, with a peppery finish. This pronounced character is typical for Coratina and is related to its high content of natural polyphenols.
You can actually use this oil for almost anything in the kitchen and at the table, both cold and hot.
Cold, for maximum flavor experience:
- over salads, tomatoes, burrata, or mozzarella
- over grilled or steamed vegetables
- with bread, dips, and as a finishing touch on the plate
- over pasta, legumes, soup, or potatoes
Hot, for daily cooking:
- in soups, sauces, and stews
- for pan and oven preparations
- for baking and roasting at normal cooking temperatures
If you want to preserve the polyphenol profile as much as possible, use this oil cold daily or as a final addition after cooking. Extra virgin olive oil is very suitable for heating, but some polyphenols may decrease with prolonged or high heat.

Kwaliteit & analyse
This organic extra virgin olive oil is made from 100% Coratina, an olive variety known for its robust flavour and high content of natural polyphenols. It is precisely these polyphenols that give this oil its distinct bitterness and pungency.
The laboratory report states an acidity of 0.19% (which is very low) and a total polyphenol content of 847 mg/kg. This places this oil among the polyphenol-rich extra virgin olive oils in our range.
This oil has also been tested for purity. The analysis checked for 638 possible pesticides and related substances, with no detectable residues. This is measurable quality: not a vague promise, but an oil whose flavour, origin, polyphenols, and purity are substantiated.
The 3-litre bag-in-box protects the oil better against light and oxygen than an opened bottle. This allows you to use this oil liberally in daily cooking, without having to skimp on quality.
Gezondheidsclaim
With 16.94 mg of polyphenols per 20 grams of olive oil, Coratina easily meets the requirements for the official EU health claim for olive oil polyphenols. This must be at least 5 mg per 20 grams of olive oil.
That claim states: olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress.
That sounds like a biology textbook, but in plain language, it means that the polyphenols in olive oil act as antioxidants. They help protect your body from harmful influences that affect you daily, such as stress, air pollution, and normal aging processes.
In Coratina, bitterness and pungency play a clear role. These are not only due to “taste” but are linked to natural phenolic compounds such as oleocanthal, oleacein, and other olive oil polyphenols.
Oleocanthal often gives that tingling, peppery sensation in the back of the throat. You will certainly feel this if you taste this olive oil pure, from a spoon. Oleacein, on the other hand, is often mentioned in relation to the bitter, green, and powerful side of fresh extra virgin olive oil.
In short: the powerful taste of this oil is a sign of the natural bioactive compounds for which good extra virgin olive oil is valued.

Veelgestelde vragen
Is this the same olive oil as the 500 ml Coratina bottle?
Yes. This is the same organic Coratina olive oil, but in a bag-in-box. Convenient if you use a lot of olive oil and want to buy it economically.
Isn't a bag-in-box a bit inconvenient?
Certainly not! The bag-in-box has a very handy tap that you can use to fill a bottle, for example. Then you can store the bag-in-box cool in your kitchen cupboard, and use the bottle in the kitchen and on the table.
Is 3 liters suitable for home use?
Yes. For daily use, if you regularly cook, bake, or make salads, 3 liters is actually practical. The Bag-in-Box protects the oil from light and oxygen, making this size suitable for daily use.
Does the quality remain good with such a large package?
Yes. The Bag-in-Box protects the oil better than an opened bottle and stays fresh for a long time. When pouring, hardly any air and light come into contact with the oil. This keeps the olive oil and its taste stable for longer. For more on storage, see this page in our Knowledge Center.
Is this olive oil suitable for daily cooking?
Yes. Good extra virgin olive oil is not meant for special occasions or to be left in the back of the cupboard. Use it daily for baking, roasting, vegetables, salads, pasta, bread, and to finish dishes.
Is this olive oil not too bitter or too peppery?
Fresh, good quality extra virgin olive oil can be bitter and peppery. This is characteristic of good olive oil and is due, among other things, to natural polyphenols. The intensity varies per oil and is described in the taste profile on this page.
Why choose this oil instead of supermarket olive oil?
Supermarket olive oil is often made for a low liter price. This oil is selected based on origin, recent harvest, taste, and quality. So you are not buying anonymous bulk oil, but an oil from a specific producer.
How do you best use this olive oil?
Often and for everything in the kitchen and on the table. Fry your fish and meat with it, use it over warm vegetables, in salads, with bread, in pasta, or as a final drizzle over a dish. Good olive oil is better appreciated when you actually use it. For more information about baking and roasting, use and recipes, see our Olive Oil Knowledge Center.
Should you consume this olive oil purely for its health benefits?
No. There is no scientific evidence whatsoever that a spoonful or two of olive oil on an empty stomach would be better than when you use olive oil as part of your normal diet.
What's more, EVOO belongs with food!
If you use olive oil with your meal, you also benefit from the role olive oil plays in nutrition. For more on this, see our page on health and extra virgin olive oil.
