Smaak & gebruik

Taste. Dentri Blend is medium fruity (not too intense), green, and herbaceous, with notes of fresh grass, olive leaf, and artichoke. The oil is mildly bitter, with a peppery finish.

The complex flavor, medium bitterness, and peppery throat tingling, which you primarily notice when tasting the oil pure, are characteristic of this oil. They come from natural polyphenols such as oleocanthal and oleacein. In a polyphenol-rich extra virgin olive oil, these are precisely characteristics of an early harvest and a potent composition.

Use. This extra virgin olive oil is suitable for both cold and warm use. In our opinion, Dentri Blend is particularly suited for cold use: over salads, bread, tomatoes, grilled vegetables, legumes, soup, fish, or yogurt. This way, you get the most out of the aroma, taste, and character of this extra virgin olive oil.

Can you fry and roast with it? Absolutely. Dentri Blend is unfiltered, but after pressing, it was allowed to rest for several weeks in special tanks. As a result, natural particles settled to the bottom, and the oil was decanted clear. This makes it different from a young, cloudy unfiltered olive oil. If there is any sediment at the bottom of the bottle, avoid pouring it.

Kwaliteit & analyse

When it comes to quality, the Dentri Blend is exceptional. The NYIOOC Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils awarded Dentri Blend a Gold Award, making this olive oil one of the best in the world.

In addition, the Blend has been analyzed by the World Olive Center for Health in Athens (see images for the report). The report states a total polyphenol content of 1,100 mg/kg, placing this oil among the very polyphenol-rich extra virgin olive oils in our assortment.

Dentri also far exceeds the requirements for the official EU health claim. According to the report, 20 grams of this oil provides 22.01 mg of hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, and related compounds. The legal minimum for the claim is 5 mg per 20 grams, so Dentri is well above that.

The basic values are also strong. The acidity is 0.20%, well below the limit for extra virgin olive oil. The peroxide value is 0.80 meq O2/kg. Simply put: at the time of analysis, this oil was very low in oxidation. This is consistent with early harvested and carefully processed olives.

The analysis also mentions 142 mg/kg of oleocanthal and 62 mg/kg of oleacein, natural compounds that contribute to the bitterness and peppery finish of polyphenol-rich extra virgin olive oil.

In short: Dentri doesn't need big words. Its quality is measurable: many polyphenols, strong basic values, and a composition consistent with early-harvested, carefully processed olives. A top olive oil.

Gezondheidsclaim

With 22 mg of polyphenols per 20 grams of olive oil, Dentri Blend far exceeds the requirements for the official EU health claim for olive oil polyphenols. This claim requires at least 5 mg per 20 grams of olive oil.

The claim states: olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress.

That sounds like a biology textbook, but in plain language, it means that the polyphenols in olive oil act as antioxidants. They help protect your body from harmful influences you encounter daily, such as stress, air pollution, and normal aging processes.

Veelgestelde vragen

Is Dentri a very pungent olive oil?
No, not really. Dentri has distinct character, but it's not meant to overwhelm you. The taste is green, fresh, and light to medium fruity, slightly bitter with a peppery finish. If you're looking for an organic olive oil with a high polyphenol content that's still very usable at the table, then Dentri is an excellent choice.

Why does Dentri sometimes sting your throat?
That sting is characteristic of extra virgin olive oil with high polyphenol content. Oleocanthal, in particular, causes that peppery sensation at the back of the throat. If you taste this olive oil pure, straight from a spoon, there's a good chance you'll feel a tickle in your throat and might even cough a little. That's a good sign! Experts say that the quality of olive oil is in the cough. Read more about it here:
Why Olive Oil's Quality is in the Cough.

Do you need to consume this olive oil purely for its health benefits?
No. There is no scientific evidence that a spoon or two of olive oil on an empty stomach is better than using olive oil as part of your regular diet.

In fact, EVOO belongs with food!
When you use olive oil with your meal, you also benefit from the role olive oil plays in nutrition. See our page on health and extra virgin olive oil for more information.

How much Dentri do you need for the official health claim?
The official EU health claim is based on 20 grams of olive oil per day. That's about 3 full tablespoons from your cutlery drawer. According to the analysis, 20 grams of Dentri provides 22.01 mg of hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, and related compounds. This is well above the legal minimum of 5 mg per 20 grams.

Is Dentri cloudy because it is unfiltered?
Not necessarily. Dentri is unfiltered, but after production, the oil was allowed to rest for several weeks in special tanks. This allowed heavier particles to settle, making the olive oil clear. So, unfiltered here does not automatically mean the oil is cloudy.

Can there be some sediment in the bottle?
That can happen with an unfiltered oil. A small amount of sediment is not unusual. There's no need to shake it. Store the bottle calmly, in a cool, dark place, and the oil will remain at its best.

Can I use this olive oil for baking and frying?
Yes. Dentri Blend is suitable for both cold and warm use. The oil is unfiltered, but after production, it rested in tanks for several weeks and was drawn off clear. Therefore, it is not comparable to a young, cloudy unfiltered olive oil. If there is any sediment at the bottom of the bottle, simply don't pour it out.

What's the best way to store Dentri?
Store the bottle in a cool, dark, and well-sealed place. So, preferably in a kitchen cabinet rather than next to the stove or in direct sunlight. Refrigeration is not necessary. Olive oil can temporarily thicken or become cloudy in the refrigerator. This is not a problem, by the way. See more about this on the page How to store extra virgin olive oil

Who is Dentri primarily suitable for?
For those seeking an organic extra virgin olive oil with a high polyphenol content, but not necessarily the most extreme flavor. Dentri is spicier than standard olive oil, but not overly so, and remains highly versatile for daily cooking.

Is Dentri an oil for everyday use or for special occasions?
Extra virgin olive oil is a fresh product. It's best used often, frequently, and daily, rather than being saved for a special occasion.

Due to its small batch production, Dentri feels special, but the oil is actually meant to be used. A good olive oil is of little use if it just sits in the cupboard. Use it especially on dishes where you can truly taste its flavor.
