This organic extra virgin olive oil comes from Puglia, in Southern Italy, and is made from 100% Coratina olives, making it a monocultivar olive oil. Coratina is known for its robust character: green, distinctly bitter, and peppery. Precisely this bitterness and pepperiness are characteristic of an olive oil with many natural polyphenols.
With 847 mg/kg of polyphenols, this oil has an exceptionally high content of antioxidants. This makes it interesting for those who choose extra virgin olive oil not only for its taste but also consciously pay attention to quality, polyphenols, and daily nutrition.
The oil has won awards at many international olive oil competitions in New York, London, Berlin, Japan, etc.

This Coratina from Puglia is powerful, green and distinctly bitter, with a peppery aftertaste. This pronounced character is typical of Coratina and is related to its high content of natural polyphenols.
You can actually use this oil for almost everything in the kitchen and on the table, both cold and hot.
Cold, for maximum flavour experience:

This organic extra virgin olive oil is made from 100% Coratina, an olive variety known for its robust flavour and high content of natural polyphenols. It is precisely these polyphenols that give this oil its distinct bitterness and pungency.
The laboratory report states an acidity of 0.19% (which is very low) and a total polyphenol content of 847 mg/kg. This places this oil among the polyphenol-rich extra virgin olive oils in our range.
This oil has also been tested for purity. The analysis checked for 638 possible pesticides and related substances, with no detectable residues. This is measurable quality: not a vague promise, but an oil whose flavour, origin, polyphenols, and purity are substantiated.
Gezondheidsclaim
With 16.94 mg of polyphenols per 20 grams of olive oil, Coratina easily meets the requirements for the official EU health claim for olive oil polyphenols. This must be at least 5 mg per 20 grams of olive oil.
That claim states: olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress.
That sounds like a biology textbook, but in plain language, it means that the polyphenols in olive oil act as antioxidants. They help protect your body from harmful influences that affect you daily, such as stress, air pollution, and normal aging processes.
In Coratina, bitterness and pungency play a clear role. These are not just due to “flavor” but are associated with natural phenolic compounds such as oleocanthal, oleacein, and other olive oil polyphenols.
Oleocanthal often gives that tingling, peppery sensation in the back of the throat. You definitely feel this when you taste this olive oil pure, straight from a spoon. Oleacein, on the other hand, is often mentioned in relation to the bitter, green, and powerful side of fresh extra virgin olive oil.

How quickly do you use up a 500 ml bottle?
That depends on your usage. If you use two tablespoons daily (about 20 grams) for health reasons, a bottle will last approximately 23 days (the specific gravity of olive oil is lower, so 500 ml is about 455 grams). If you also use the oil for cooking, baking, and salads, it will go much faster. A 3-liter bag-in-box is then much more economical.
