Herkomst en achtergrond

Poggio ai Palmenti is an organic extra virgin olive oil from Il Bottaccio, a Tuscan family business owned by Luca Guglielmi. The olive oil comes from Venturina Terme, in the Tuscan Maremma, not far from the coast and the Bolgheri area.

Il Bottaccio has been making olive oil for generations. The family history dates back to 1925, when Ermelindo and Letizia started cultivating olives. The company now uses modern organic olive cultivation, but still with great attention to origin, harvest and processing.

This oil is made from Frantoio and Leccino olives. This creates a nice balance: clearly Tuscan, but not overly sharp or bitter. This makes Poggio ai Palmenti an accessible Italian olive oil that you can easily use often.

Kwaliteit & analyse

Absolute, 100% Italian top quality. Poggio ai Palmenti is organically produced in Tuscany. The olives grow near Venturina Terme, at an altitude of about 50 meters, on trees approximately 30 to 35 years old. Harvesting takes place between October 15th and 30th, thus early in the season.

Il Bottaccio uses manual or semi-manual harvesting, annual pruning, and rapid processing. According to the producer, the olives are processed and cold-pressed within a maximum of 8 hours after harvesting. This is important for the freshness, aroma, taste, and quality of extra virgin olive oil.

This oil is not an anonymous Italian bottle from the supermarket, but a traceable organic olive oil from a real producer. You know where it comes from, who makes it, and which olives are in it.

Veelgestelde vragen

Is Poggio ai Palmenti a mild olive oil?

Medium mild, certainly not intense and approachable. This Tuscan olive oil is medium fruity, slightly bitter, and a bit spicy. Definitely softer than many distinctive Tuscan olive oils, but still has a lot of flavor. Compared to a supermarket olive oil, this one has real taste!

What is the best use for this olive oil?

For bread, tomatoes, salads, grilled vegetables, pasta, potatoes, beans, soup, and Tuscan dishes. It is a great olive oil for daily use, especially when you want to taste the oil well without it being too sharp.

Is this olive oil suitable for baking and frying?

Yes. Extra virgin olive oil is perfectly suitable for normal baking and frying. With Poggio ai Palmenti, I would mainly use it at the table, over warm dishes, or for gentle warm use, because that's when you get the most out of its Tuscan flavor, but yes, you can certainly bake and fry with it!

What makes Poggio ai Palmenti different from supermarket olive oil?

Firstly, the real taste will stand out. A full, rich flavor where the Italian sun is recognizable, in contrast to the often bland, meaningless supermarket olive oil. The origin is clear, the producer is known, and the oil comes from an organic Tuscan family business. So you not only know that it is Italian extra virgin olive oil, but also from which region it comes, who makes it, and which olive varieties were used.

Is this a good first Italian olive oil?

Yes. Poggio ai Palmenti has character, but is not extremely bitter or peppery. For those who want to discover good Italian olive oil without immediately going for a very powerful oil, this is a logical, organic choice.

Which olives are used to make Poggio ai Palmenti?

This olive oil is made from Frantoio and Leccino olives. These are classic Italian olive varieties that together provide a beautiful balance of fruitiness, spiciness, and gentle bitterness.
