Herkomst en achtergrond
Caixeiro Origins is a Portuguese extra virgin olive oil from Trás-os-Montes, a rugged olive oil region in northeastern Portugal. The olives come from Santa Maria de Émeres, near Valpaços, at an altitude of 550 to 750 meters. The area is rural, with little industry and excellent air quality.
This oil is made from Cobrançosa, Madural, and Verdeal Transmontanas. These are Portuguese olive varieties that together create a smooth, approachable extra virgin olive oil with a light fruitiness and a subtle peppery note.
The strength of Caixeiro Origins lies in the combination of quality, content, and ease of use. You buy 5 liters of good Portuguese extra virgin olive oil in a bag-in-box, at a price per liter that encourages generous use. Not just a tiny bit over a salad, but for daily use: cold, warm, at the table, and in the kitchen.
Smaak & gebruik
Caixeiro Origins is mild, subtly fruity, and not overpowering. This olive oil stays more in the background, making it suitable for many dishes, both cold and hot.
The oil has low bitterness and a subtle peppery finish. This means it won't dominate your dish but rather provides a fine daily base for many applications.
Use this extra virgin olive oil cold over salads, tomatoes, bread, vegetables, potatoes, pasta, soup, and legumes. You can also use this oil excellently warm, for example, in a pan, in the oven, with casseroles, vegetables, fish, chicken, meat, or potatoes.
Extra virgin olive oil is excellent for baking and frying. They've been doing it for thousands of years in Mediterranean countries. With Caixeiro Origins, it also makes sense: the taste is accessible, the packaging is practical, and the price per liter makes it suitable for daily use. At the same time, it's still a good extra virgin olive oil, so feel free to use it cold at the table as well.
Kwaliteit & analyse
Caixeiro Origins is made from Portuguese olives from Trás-os-Montes. The olives are harvested with an electric vibrating fork and pressed and centrifuged within 12 hours. The oil is lightly filtered, a conscious choice to balance stability, taste, and preservation of natural properties.
The acidity is lower than 0.2%. This is well below the limit for extra virgin olive oil and a strong indicator of quality. This oil is not only affordable per liter, but also carefully produced and traceable to its producer and region.
Caixeiro, also known as Soresa, is a Portuguese family business founded in 2015 by three young farmers with a long agricultural tradition. Responsible production and sustainability are important aspects of their approach.

Veelgestelde vragen
Is 5 litres of olive oil too much for home use?
Not if you use extra virgin olive oil daily. For salads, bread, vegetables, pasta, potatoes, soup, oven dishes, baking and frying, 5 litres will go faster than you think. The bag-in-box also helps to protect the oil well during use.
Most of our customers with a family use a 5-litre bag-in-box for about 5 to 6 months. But that heavily depends on daily use.
What do you use Caixeiro Origins for?
For daily cold and hot use. Think of salads, bread, tomatoes, vegetables, pasta, potatoes, soup, legumes, oven dishes, baking and frying. The oil is soft and lightly fruity, making it versatile without being overpowering.
Can I bake and fry with this extra virgin olive oil?
Yes. Extra virgin olive oil is perfectly suitable for normal baking and frying. Caixeiro Origins is particularly convenient for daily hot use because the oil has an accessible taste and comes in an economical 5-litre bag-in-box.
Is this olive oil also suitable for salads and cold use?
Yes. Caixeiro Origins is not just an oil for the pan. You can also use it cold over salads, bread, vegetables, potatoes, pasta, soup, or legumes. Its mild taste makes it a good fit for many everyday dishes.
Why is this olive oil in a bag-in-box?
A bag-in-box protects olive oil from light and limits contact with air. As you dispense oil, the inner bag contracts. This keeps the oil better protected than in an opened bottle or large tin.
Is this oil more economical than a 500ml bottle?
Yes. This 5-litre bag-in-box has a lower price per litre than most smaller bottles of extra virgin olive oil. That makes it interesting for those who use good olive oil daily and generously.
Is Caixeiro Origins an intense olive oil?
No. Caixeiro Origins is soft, lightly fruity, and accessible. The oil has little bitterness and a subtle peppery finish. This makes it suitable for people who seek quality but do not want a very sharp or bitter olive oil.
What's the best way to store this bag-in-box?
Store the bag-in-box in a cool, dark place, for example, in a pantry or kitchen cupboard. Do not place it next to the stove or in direct sunlight. Light, heat, and air are detrimental to the quality of extra virgin olive oil.
How long does the oil stay good after opening?
An opened bag-in-box remains better protected from air than an opened bottle. Preferably use the oil within a few months of opening and always before the best-before date. Store the box in a cool and dark place for the best quality.
